The Benefits of Sedation from an Oral Surgery Practice
We understand that coming for any type of dental surgery can be daunting and cause anxiety. We take all steps to ensure all of our patients feel comfortable and at ease before and after treatment.
Dental sedation by our oral surgeons allows for patients to feel calm and relaxed during their treatment. Our policy is that every patient is with an experienced assistant all throughout their treatment. We also have a dedicated recovery area within our Fresno oral surgery facility, so that patients can recover from sedation and their treatment at their pace. For our teen patients who are receiving wisdom teeth extraction, parents are welcomed to stay with their child until they fall asleep.
We advise all of our patients to have a trusted family member or friend to bring them to and from their procedure.
Types of Sedation in Fresno
All three of our oral surgeons take the time to accommodate the individual needs of all patients. We understand that no two patients are the same, and each patient may need different types of sedation for their procedure. At Premier Valley Oral Surgery & Dental Implants, we provide a number of sedation options including:
IV Sedation: sedatives are administered intravenously and patients experienced a deep sense of relaxation, but are still conscious. This type of sedation is monitored and controlled throughout the procedure, and patients do not need any additional dose. Patients will have little or no memory of receiving treatment, but you are able to respond to verbal commands or a light touch during the procedure. This type of sedation is ideal for patients with gag reflexes, dental anxiety, and those scheduled for complex surgery or tooth extraction.
General Anesthesia: As the deepest level of sedation, patients are completely unconscious during treatment. This sedation option is recommended for patients who are undergoing complex oral and maxillofacial surgery is required. An anesthesiologist is necessary to monitor patients’ vital signs and control dosage while under general anesthesia. After surgery, medication is provided to reverse the anesthesia, and patients are monitored and are accompanied by an assistant until they awaken.
